Julie and the Phantoms - Review

If you haven't watched Julie and the Phantoms, leave this article and GO WATCH IT ! (Yes, this is how much I love this show). You need more reasons to go and watch it ? First, let me give you the plot :

One year after the death of her mother, Julie Molina is forced to leave her music school because she is incapable of singing and playing without her mom alive. When her world is collapsing, a band composed of Luke, Alex and Reggie, who have been dead for 25 years suddenly appear in front of Julie in her mom's old music room. Destiny or a message from a mother? With the help of the band, Julie starts to make music again. But time is ticking, can the boys stay forever in this world and why can people only see them when they play with Julie ?

This story is not brand new, it comes from the Brazilian tv show from the same name (Julie e os Fantasmas). I have not seen the original, so I cannot give an opinion on the changes made. However, I can say that the remake is great. I have the songs on replay everyday. My favourite songs would be Unsaid Emily and Perfect Harmony. Kenny Ortega is back at it again ! He seems to be on all the it movie musicals for teenagers (and adults !).

I only started watching this show for one actor: Jeremy Shada who was also the voice of the love of my life Lance McClain (Voltron). I was not expecting something great, the trailer seemed a little childish. I was so wrong ! This show made me laugh and cry. I have seen this show when it came out so nearly 3 years ago and I still think about it from time to time and listen to the songs.

My favourite scene is from episode 7, where Luke, Alex and Reggie are rehearsing and Reggie starts saying that there is chemistry between Luke and Julie while singing. To prove that there is nothing between them and that he has chemistry with everyone, Luke stars to sing romantically to Reggie. The scene ends with Reggie being confused (Luke's really hot) and saying "Girls? Am I right?" which Luke responds "Yes" and Alex responds "No" (because he is, in fact, gay).

The actors are all very talented and I hope I will see them on other projects because they really deserve to be more famous. They sometimes make appearances in France for some conventions and I am always tempted of going (but it's expensive let's be real). From what I've seen, they are literal sweethearts.

Unfortunately this show has been cancelled by Netflix which is a huge mistake ! I will never forgive Netflix for this, especially now that Kenny has said that Julie and Luke were endgame and that he was planning on making 5 seasons. Imagine 5 seasons with songs as great as those from the first season, some characters development, new and old relationships and a little bit of drama!!!

I know it is annoying to watch a tv show when you know it has been cancelled but trust me, you NEED to watch Julie and the Phantoms!!!
