My 2021 To Be Read List

Dernière mise à jour : 20 nov. 2023

Here we are again for my TBR List. This year, I nearly read all the books on my TBR List and I hope that in 2021, I will read all the books I plan on reading. I hope this list can help you with your own list. There is no specific order for this and there are 13 books in total. Those books are mostly LGBTQ+ because I am currently working on an essay for my Master Degree around LGBTQ+ YA novels. Without further ado, let's get started !

1) Cemetery Boys - Aiden Thomas : This book is problably one of the first book that I will read this year. I am so excited for this story. Trans MC + MLM story + ghost = count me in ! This is Aiden Thomas' first book. I have received the most beautiful pre-order campaign's gifts. The book is also gorgeous, I am in love with the cover. (LGBTQ+ rep)

2) Vicious - V. E. Schwab : I must confess something... As this article is being written, I have never read any V. E. Schwab books... I know I know it's a shame !! But I want to atone for my sins by reading Vicous this year. I only heard good things about Schwab's writting and I cannot wait to read one of her books. I always wanted to read a story from the point of views of a villain instead of a hero. I might read this with Solene, so stay tune for a collective review !

(apparently there is some LGBTQ+ rep in this book).

3) You should see me in a crown - Leah Johnson : I bought this book for BLM

and I really want to read more diverse books. I realized that I mostly read books written by white people and I need to change that and buy and read more books written by people of colours. Reading more diversity does not only mean LGBTQ+, it is also about ethnicity and neurodivergent stories as well. I just love the story of this book, it looks so wholesome. (LGBTQ+ rep)

4) This is how you lose the time war - El-Mohtar Amal :

Gay spies!!!! Do I need to say more? This book seems to be short which is always good when my TBR is full of enormous books ! I love that this story is written by two authors. It will be a quick and easy read I think. Solene and I should read this for the Book Club in january !

(LGBTQ+ rep)

5) Dangerous Remedy - Kat Dunn : I am French and therefore, I love revolution. But if you make it gay... even better ! It is always interesting to see foreigners writing about your country. The cover is gorgeous especially because it has a guillotine. My friend recommended this book so many times, I cannot let her down on this one. I have very high expectations because of her. (LGBTQ+ rep)

6) Again Again - E. Lockhart : After putting We Were Liars as one of my favourite books, I needed to read more of E. Lockhart's stories. Through a poll on my twitter (you can see all the polls here), people voted for this book. I really hope that I will like it as much as We Were Liars but I am also trying not to get my expectations too high for this. I am a sucker for romance and it seems this book could be perfect for me. I might also read Genuine Fraud because apprently this book is closer to We Were Liars.

7) Summer Bird Blue - Akemi Dawn Bowman

I read a few pages this year of this book and loved it. I started reading it on Scribd on my phone and decided to buy a physical copy. I find a used copy on World Of Books. Moreover, my thesis for my Master Degree is around LGBTQ+ representation in novel and it is very hard to find books with aromantic characters. (LGBTQ+ rep)

8) Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen : I needed to read at least one classic book ! I have read some exerpt from this book for school but I have never read it fully. It is considered to be one of the first enemies to lovers story. I have watched the movie with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and wanted to read the book. I was not the number one fan for Elizabeth and Mr Darcy's relationship, but maybe the book can make me love it more ? We will see !

9) The Fascinators - Andrew Elipulos : I bought so many books from a friend and this is one of them. I really love books around magic even though I have not read many of them. This is perfect for my master thesis as well which is always great. I have seen good reviews as well as bad reviews of this book so I have no ideas what to expect. I do not really have any expectations for this book, we will see... (LGBTQ+ Rep)

10) Fence: Disarmed - Sarah Rees Brennan : Of course I needed to read the sequel to Fence: Stricking Distance which is a book that has become one of my favourite this year (if you want to read my review, click here). I am so excited to be back with the boys, I miss them. The second book takes place in France and I am excited to see the clichee of French people in this book (bonus point if Parisien are rude because it is true). (LGBTQ+ rep)

11) Princess at Heart - Connie Glynn : I am so exicted for the 4th book in The Rosewood Chronicles ! I am not sure I remember everything from the last book so I might re-read the other books. I have missed the characters. Connie Glynn has said that we might cry for this book and I am NOT ready AT ALL. Please send help... This book is coming out one day before my birthday, it is the perfect gift ! (LGBTQ+ rep)

12) Extincta - Victor Dixen : This book is the only french book on this list. Victor Dixen is a french author that I discovered last year with Cogito which I really enjoyed reading. I wanted to read another book from him and decided to read the longest apparently... It is a real challenge to read that many pages for me but I loved Cogito and hope Extincta will be as pleasant to read as Cogito. My friend who read it told me that it was very long and that the pace in the middle was too slow. I might keep this book for last... I like the challenge !

13) Children of blood and bone - Tomi Adeyemi :

I have heard so many good things about this book. I had the opportunity to buy it from a friend for 5€. I wanted to read it this year but it's a very big book. This book is one of the best books from Goodreads Choice Awards from 2018. It is also a book about magic, which is something I love. I feel like this book is also a challenge but I am very excited to read it.

I hope this list will help you for your own TBR List for 2021. There are so many books that I want to read. Especially new books coming in 2021 such as : Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli, One Last Stop by Casey McQuinston, Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce, and more... I also have to finish the Grisha Trilogy and read Six of Crows before the show is released in April !! So many books and so little time...

If you are interested by a review of any of these books or if you want to share your TBR List for 2021, fell free to leave a comment below !
