My 2023 To Be Read List

Dernière mise à jour : 20 nov. 2023

Hey everyone, I know I did not make a list for 2022 but I still wanted to tell you about my reading plans for this year.

I did terribly with my 2021 TBR List, as I only read 4.5 books out of 13... I did not want to feel pressured to read my books so I decided to not make a list for 2022 and see how things evolved. It did not change anything so I decided for this year to make a list and try and read the book of this list. It is always fun to have a challenge but no pressure if I don't read theses books this year. My Goodreads/Storygraph challenge this year is to read 12 books (1 book/month). It has been my goal for 3 years now and I love it because I usually read more than 12 books but I don't feel pressure by the challenge.

Here is my 2023 TBR :

  • 1) If We Were Villains - M.L. Rio : This should be the first collective reading we do with Solene. I only heard great things about this book and I have a physical copy of it so it must be read. It has been sitting next to my bed for about 6 months now... Don't judge me. Buying books and reading books are two different hobbies.

  • 2) The Queen of Nothing - Holly Black: currently reading, I am 30% through but I cannot seem to be able to finish it... This year, there is a "sequel" called The Stolen Heir and I might pick it up but first I need to finish the original series. I actually enjoy the story so far. I stopped reading the book because I thought Solene wanted to wait after the second book... Turns out she thought I was reading it and decided to follow my lead. Results: She has read it but not me. We might not make a collective review of the books because it's been a while since we read the second book...

  • 3) Darius The Great Is Not Okay - Abid Khorram: I'm waiting to be in the right mood to read this book (depressed ?). I feel like this book is a masterpiece and I want to read it at the right time. I bought this book 6 months ago and I see it every time before I go to sleep, it begs me to read it every time. Maybe 2023 will be the right year... ? Let's hope!

  • 4) The Blood of Olympus - Rick Riordan: This is the last book in the Heroes of Olympus series. I am currently reading The House of Hades (90%) and it should be my first read of the year. I want to finish this series because Rick Riordan just announced a new Percy Jackson book that take place before the Trial of Apollo. There is also The Sun and The Stars coming out in 2023 which I preordered immediately (the book focuses around Nico and Will). This gives me the motivation to finish this series.

  • 5) Family of Liars - E. Lockhart: Currently reading as well. (Shoutout to Vic who send me a copy of this book from the UK, you are the best <3). I am half way through this book but it does not feel like reading We Were Liars or Again Again by the same author. I do not know if it is because I am not in the right set of mind to read it or just because I do not really connect with the story or the characters. My opinion might change in the future, I hope it does but for now, I need to finish it first.

  • 6) King of Scars - Leigh Bardugo: Nikolai is my favourite character from the Shadow and Bone trilogy so it should be easy to read but I am in denial. What I do not know cannot hurt me right? We know Leigh Bardugo is capable of killing characters, therefor I am scared.... But season 2 of Shadow and Bone comes out this year which might give me the motivation to finish this duology.

I feel like we put a lot of pressure on TBR especially with apps like Goodreads or StoryGraph. Moreover, I buy so many books it's crazy and my TBR becomes bigger and bigger. I must have at least 70 books that are waiting in my room to be read and another 20 books on my Ipad. I also have Scribd where I have added so many books and audiobooks on my list to read/listen as well. Send help...

I see so many people challenging themselves to not buy books before they finish their physical TBR but this is not me... I am not strong enough.
